The summer school «Sustainable Construction» is organized by the Department of Civil Engineering (DICIV) and the Department of Information and Electric Engineering and Applied Mathemathics (DIEM) of the University of Salerno (UNISA), in cooperation with the Faculty of Civil Engineering and International Relations Department of Riga Technical University (RTU), Latvia.

August 26 – September 5, University of Salerno, Italy

«Sustainability» is one of the world’s most talked about but least understood words. Its meaning is often clouded by differing interpretations and by a tendency for the subject to be treated superficially. Traditionally the concept of sustainability embraces the preservation of the environment, as well as critical development-related issues such as the efficient use of resources, continual social progress, stable economic growth, and the eradication of poverty.

Program

The summer school is aimed to provide new generation of participants with the ability to develop interdisciplinary thinking.

The scientific programme will include the following fields:

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering and Applied Physics
  • Sustainable construction in Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Building materials for Sustainable construction
  • Sustainable design principles
  • Practical implementation of Sustainable construction principles.

Following the success of the first two editions, the program will be very similar to past years. The activities will include seminars, workshops, practical and theoretical lessons, lectures of famous scientists from some international universities and research institutes, visits to industrial enterprises, laboratories. In addition, interdisciplinary teams will be formed in the students group, to work on assigned projects. The tutorship for the project making will be provided by professors, researchers, postdocs and PhD students of the organizing Departments. The theoretical and practical lectures will be provided by national and international professors and experts of Sustainable constructions.

The summer school represents an important chance to improve your skills and to develop your abilities in the sustainable construction domain, as well as to boost the networking, the cooperation and the interdisciplinary thinking.
Social events, excursions and other activities will be proposed too. Visits to Greek and Roman cultural sites and to the beautiful landscapes of the Salerno coasts will let you fall in an immersive experience of the Italian culture.
